Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In the first part of the course, students will learn how to identify information structure and semantic relations in text and apply this knowledge to translation tasks. Through the teaching materiel it will be demonstrated how to approach translation as an act of text production for a specific purpose and target groups. In the second part, students will learn how to deal with various translation problems by using corpus linguistics methods and by working with parallel corpora. The focus will be on the study of meaning in context, distinction between translation equivalents and comparison of different translations.
Assessment and permitted materials
Two tests (one mid-term and one end-of-term); homework assignments; regular class attendance mandatory. Students will be allowed to use dictionaries and other electronic resources in homework assignments.

Participation (10%), assignments (30%) mid-term test (30%), final-test (30%)
