Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction to textual analysis, production and revision;
Consolidation of general knowledge in Portuguese;
Awareness of morphological, grammatical, syntactic and lexical phenomena and their respective functions in the Portuguese language;
Awareness of the interactions between language and culture: introduction to cultural theories;
Introduction to basic concepts such as textual function, text type, genre theory, discourse analysis, cultural identity;
Stylistic knowledge that is relevant to the translation process: idiomatic expressions, different registers and communication situations;
Introduction to concepts from literary studies and translation studies: functionality, target audience, Skopos theory;
Reflections on the different grammatical and pragmatic structures in Portuguese and German languages;
Reading and analysis of various types of texts in Portuguese language; basic translation exercises.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular and active participation in class and on Moodle; final exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

There are no minimum requirements. Grading depends on the the result of the final exam and the participation of the students.

Examination topics

Final exam. The materials (texts and exercises) will be made available on Moodle.

Further bibliographical references, texts and materials will be indicated throughout the semester and/or will be available on the Moodle platform.
