Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Based on the GILT process, contents of this course are issues in technical documentation and localisation such as locales, terminology, images, formats, colours as well as legal requirements, practices, project management and quality assurance. In addition this course addresses topics such as comprehensibility of technical documents, controlled languages and translatability. Based on the examples of website localisation, software localisation and localisation of technical documents, methods and tools that are used in localisation are explained.
Assessment and permitted materials
Presentations (10%), written tests (15%), project work (30%) and contributions during classes and submission of written contributions on the e-learning platform (45 %) are requirements for a successful completion of the course.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The main objective of this course is to impart basic knowledge of technical documentation and localisation. Students are able to apply these theoretical foundations in localisation projects. They are able to evaluate the comprehensibility and translatability of technical documents. Students are able to identify, categorise and solve problems in the area of localisation in a team setting. This knowledge provides the basis for planning, implementing and evaluating localisation projects.
Examination topics
Submission of written contributions on the e-learning platform (individual activities and group activities, collaborative work), group work and project work (apart from classes), interactive lecture, presentations, independent research.
