Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction to different modes of interpreting: consecutive with and without notes, liaison interpreting, simultaneous. First contact with basic skills in each mode. Raising awareness for fundamental interpreting issues and problems.
Preparatory exercises and interpreting exercises; simulation of different communicative settings that involve interpreting; short presentations by students; peer to peer feedback; expert feedback.
Note-taking.

Assessment and permitted materials

80% Interpreting incl. shadowing
20% preparatory exercises, active participation in class

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement: 60%
Attendance is obligatory. You may miss a maximum of 2 classes.

Grades:
> 90%: 1
> 80%: 2
> 70%: 3
> 60%: 4
<60%: 5 (fail)

Examination topics

The best 3 interpretations in class (consecutive, simultaneous, dialogue) - graded 1-5 following the criteria for the final exam
Short presentations and/or participation at dialogues/group discussions.
Homework and active participation in class.
Reflection.
