Please be informed that currently there is a waiting period for the official confirmation of thesis supervision of up to 8 months due to a high number of supervised master's theses. You are of course very welcome to attend this master colloquium and you will receive support in defining and drafting your topic within the colloquium. However, an immediate supervision of your thesis cannot be guaranteed.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This master colloquium is targeted towards students with specialization technical translation and language industry.

Objectives: brush-up of technical and methodological foundations for scientific writing and working. At the end of the semester all students have a clear idea of how to find. a master's thesis' topic and how to write a research proposal and to start writing a master's thesis.

Contents: brushup on scientific principles and academic writing; research presentation preparation and structure; practicing constructive feedback; exchange of research ideas for master's thesis; writing a research proposal

Assessment and permitted materials

Performance will be measured based on three performances:
1) Group exercises or exercises,
2) oral presentation of the main concept of your master's thesis
3) submission of the written research proposal (template and information see Moodle).

Please actively participate in the discussion as well as feedback on presentations.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Oral presentation and written research proposal of sufficient quality for a positive assessment; compliance with all requirements in terms of content as well as attendance.

Examination topics

Exercises: on site or on Moodle
Presentation: slides have to be uploaded to Moodle two working days before the presentation (Monday night).
Research proposal: to be submitted the latest one month following the individual oral presentation.
