Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Translation of complex German or English source texts from a variety of fields for expert readers. Practice-oriented development of translation strategies and research skills. In class, we will discuss the translations prepared by students. Students will register for one presentation date and prepare the other texts of the semester in such a way that they will be able to suggest alternatives. The source texts will be available on Moodle one week ahead of the presentation and translations have to be handed in via Moodle no later than the Saturday preceding the presentation, 12 noon.
Assessment and permitted materials
Presentation of translation in class, 2 written exams (mid-term, end-of-term tests), contributions to discussions in class. Use of resources is allowed for the written exams. Weighting: 30:30:30:10
An entrance test and one of the two further tests have to be written in class, without aids and the use of a computer (only dictionaries will be allowed).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Translations will be graded according to their adequacy and marketability. Minimum requirement: suitability for publication subject to acceptable need for correction.
