Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Getting started in consecutive interpretation (German-English, English-German) after successful completion of "Basiskompetenz Dolnetschen". Special focus will be on active listening and note-taking, followed by interpretation of short papers on various topics given by fellow students and practice-oriented situations (speeches, guided tours etc.). Time permitting, an excursion will be arranged.
Assessment and permitted materials
Ongoing review of progress
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will acquire and enhance interpreting and note-taking skills, familiarise themselves with situations in which interpretation is needed, learn to expand their vocabulary and develop strategies for preparation. They will seek to deepen their skills as "messengers between cultures" in oral communication.
Examination topics
The course will progressively build students' note-taking skills (basic knowledge is required) and consecutive interpretation abilities, based on texts, contributions from live speakers (fellow students), sound and video recordings as well as role play.
