Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Getting started in consecutive interpretation (German/English, English/German) after successful completion of "Basiskompetenz Dolmetschen". Special focus will be on active listening and note-taking, followed by interpreting papers given by students. Time and group level permitting, we will also try out more difficult practice-oriented situations (speeches, guided tours etc.) We may also make time for an excursion.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will acquire and enhance their interpreting skills, familiarise themselves with situations in which interpretation is needed, learn to expand their vocabulary and develop strategies for preparation. They will seek to improve their skills as "messengers between cultures" in oral communication.
Examination topics
The course will progressively build students' note-taking skills (basic knowledge is required!) and consecutive interpretation capabilities, partly based on texts (sight translation), partly using audio and video recordings. Students are also encouraged to reflect on their own performance and the performance of others in peer review stages.
