Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is for students with little or no experience in consecutive interpreting. During the semester, we will interpret a variety of texts (videos, presentations in class) into both German and English. Students will develop coping strategies and improve their note-taking systems through various exercises and mutual feedback. We will also practice chuchotage, liaison interpreting, and sight translation.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous evaluation. Attendance and participation will be expected. Two absences will be tolerated.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

An excellent command of both German and English is required. Evaluation is based on interpreting exercises in class (at least 4, different source texts and formats), altogether accounting for 90% of your grade, as well as homework and participation (10%).
Passing grade: 60%. At least half of the interpreting assignments must have a positive grade.
Grading scale: ≥90% = 1, ≥80% = 2, ≥70% = 3, ≥60% = 4
Attendance is mandatory (two absences will be allowed).

Examination topics

Ongoing evaluation.
