Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Basic competences for both translation and interpreting will be introduced and various methodological approaches (translation strategies, linguisitc register, cultural presuppositions, general and specific knowledge, research and preparation for assignments, etc.) discussed.
Assessment and permitted materials
All written and oral work performed as part of in-class participation, homework, tests etc. will be calculated equally as part of the final grade. The grading will be broken down as follows:
The three units on the theoretical and practical preparation for translating and interpreting will be weighted at 10% and must be completed successfully in order to receive a passing final grade.
The student’s performance in the clozing unit is weighted at 14% and must also be completed successfully in order to receive a passing final grade.
The remaining 56% will be spread across the remaining units. For a total of twelve units per semester, this means that the remaining 8 units will be weighted at 7% each. This percentage will increase or decrease depending on the number of units in a semester.

The students will be given specific exercises aimed at introducing them to the spectrum of qualifications required for translation/interpreting work.
Examination topics
This class will take the skills (linguistic and analytical) and knowledge acquired in the BA -Transkulturelle Kommunikation degree program a step further, thereby giving students the overview of competences necessary for deciding how to futher proceed in the MA Translation degree program.
