Aims, contents and method of the course

AIMS:
- to improve the interpreting competence (English-German, and vice versa)
- to improve one's own individual note-taking technique
- to improve memory
- to learn how to deal with job assigments, both with and without preparation
- to improve self-assessment skills and to learn how to be more resilient in stressful situations

CONTENT
- consecutive interpreting
- mainly memory exercises with little or no note-taking
- various topics and domains
- various modes of interpretation (consecutive, dialogue, whisper, sight)

METHODS
- working with texts (videos and speeches), with or without preparation
- Consecutive interpreting, and discussing the performance with peers and with the teacher

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular attendance and active participation required
Consecutive interpretation in line with instructions/requirements
Grading will be equally (25% each) based on overall performance throughout the semester (consecutive, dialogue, whispered interpretation and sight translation)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

It is expected that students are able to apply strategies and theoretical input discussed in class to new situations and genres/domains

Examination topics

- Theoretical inputs discussed in class
- practical exercises
- active participation throughout the term
