Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This semester we will focus on selected works of US literature that have left a mark on American culture (classics such as Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby, The Maltese Falcon but also lesser known books). How have these books defined the country's identity? In what way do they convey the American experience? We will also discuss film versions of American literary classics.
Assessment and permitted materials
Regular attendance and active participation. Completion of writing assignments and book review. One oral presentation in class.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
A better understanding of the influence of American literature on culture.
Examination topics
Discussion of selected works of American literature. Students will be expected to prepare one oral presentation and to submit one book review and several writing assignments.
Reading list
Texts will be posted on moodle platform.
