Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Translation of non-fictional texts from different subject areas. The text to be translated will be handed out in the hour or uploaded to Moodle.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular attendance, participation, homework

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Building up translational competence, improvement of style, expansion of vocabulary in different subject areas.

Examination topics

1. Job analysis, text analysis, discussion of translation strategy and vocabulary as well as cultural norms (group work).
2. Translation of the text individually or in group (homework).
3. The students will present and comment their translations in the class. Errors and problems will be discussed, as well as variations of expression.
4. The students will revise their translation based on the discussion in the class and upload their revised version on the platform.
The translations will then be corrected by the lecturer.
