Aims, contents and method of the course
Analysis, discussion, production and transformation of various authentic text types/genres embedded in specific communication situations
Assessment and permitted materials
Completion of written assignments (20%), mid-term test (40%), and final test (40%). Attendance is mandatory (a maximum of two absences allowed). The course is accompanied by a tutorial which students are expected to attend.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Lectures, in-class discussions and interactive activities; writing tasks and home assignments based on specific instructions (e.g. producing original written texts of various types, rewriting/adapting and paraphrasing texts to suit different communicative purposes and target groups); individual, pair, and group work
Examination topics
The objectives of this course are as follows:
- to improve students text analysis skills with special attention to text types/genres and their textual/linguistic characteristics and conventions;
- to enhance students ability to plan and produce effective and authentic texts for different communicative purposes, situations and target audiences;
- to raise students awareness of the writing process as well as text features and patterns
