Am 5. 12. findet die Exkursion ins Kunsthistorische Museum als Doppeleinheit statt (10 bis 13 Uhr, Treffpunkt Museumseingang). Hierfür sind Präsentationen zu ausgewählten Objekten mit Rumänienbezug vorzubereiten. Eine Themenliste wird im Laufe der LV bekannt gegeben, weitere Vorschläge sind jedoch willkommen. Sollte die Teilnahme nicht möglich sein, können schriftliche Referate zu den ausgewählten Objekten abgegeben werden. Einschlägige Sekundärliteratur wird auf Moodle (in einem eigenen Literaturverzeichnis) zur Verfügung gestellt, weitere Informationen sind u. a. auch über die KHM-Homepage (Objektdatenbank, weitere Dokumentationsquellen) zu beziehen.

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture offers an overview of key subjects related to Romanian culture, including ethnogenetic and identitary disputes on 'latinism' and 'dacism', the (de-)mythologisation of such historical figures as Vlad Tapes and Dracula as his fictional Doppelgänger, the crucial cultural influence of the Habsburg and Ottoman Empires, the 1848 Revolution, the territorial and political unions and the formation of the Romanian state in 1918, the religious make-up of the country, Romanian antisemitism and the Romanian Holocaust, the communist era and the 1989 Revolution as well as the coagulation of contemporary Romanian society and politics. The purpose of the lecture is to encourage a complex examination of past and present focal points in Romanian culture and accordingly facilitate a more accurate analytical stance and heightened intercultural awareness.
On the basis of selected fictional and non-fictional texts, films, documentaries, interviews, works of art, etc., the lecture features a series of presentations on (inter)cultural issues. The set reading and preparation of various primary and secondary texts as well as their discussion during the lectures constitute a requirement.
In addition to lectures given by the course lecturer various presentations, group projects, film screenings and discussions of films, interviews etc. will be part of the learning process.

Assessment and permitted materials

Mündliche Prüfung:
Es soll ein Gespräch zu einem vorgegebenen Impulstext (zu einem in der Vorlesung ausführlich behandelten Thema) und der entsprechenden Aufgabenstellung geführt werden. Dabei sollen einerseits die historisch-faktischen Kernpunkte richtig identifiziert und andererseits deren Bedeutung aus aktueller soziokultureller Perspektive eingeordnet, analysiert und kommentiert werden. Eigene Positionierungen sollen fundiert argumentiert werden können.

Das Gespräch dauert 10 bis 20 Minuten; es wird eine Vorbereitungszeit von ca. 20 Minuten gewährt. Hierbei gilt das „open book“-Prinzip, d.h. Kandidat*innen haben unbegrenzt Zugang zu Materialien und Informationsquellen, inklusive Vorlesungsunterlagen und KI-Tools. Daher wird geraten, einen eigenen Laptop o.Ä. mitzubringen, es stehen aber auch die Desktop-Geräte vor Ort zur Verfügung.
