Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Translating texts from a variety of fields from Japanese into English and from English into Japanese. Texts to be translated include newspaper articles, advertisement texts, multimedia texts, etc. Translation assignments covered in this course are at an introductory to intermediate level.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active class participation, homework assignments, written exams.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Developing basic translation skills. Students learn to apply their language and cultural expertise as well as contrastive text competence skills in a variety of transcultural communication situations.
Examination topics
Various texts are analysed on the word, sentence and textual level and subsequently translated into the target language. Translations are prepared by students in advance and discussed in class.
