Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, students will develop competences in the field of technical translation in Japanese and English.
In the course of the semester, texts will be translated from Japanese into English and from English into Japanese. Source texts will include a variety of text types and will cover selected topics from the field of the humanities.
In the course of handling translation assignments, topics such as research methods and tools, technical terminology, text type conventions, quality checks, proofreading and text optimization, etc. will be discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Active class participation, homework assignments, two written exams. Students are allowed to use mono- and bilingual dictionaries as well as electronic dictionaries in exams.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The minimum requirement for a positive grade is regular attendance. The final grade will be calculated based on active class participation (20%), homework assignments (20%), two written exams (30% each).

Examination topics

The tests will be short translation assignments of texts similar to the source texts dealt with in class.

Reading list

Will be announced in class and made available via the Moodle platform.

Diese LVA ist auch als individuelle Fachvertiefung für die Schwerpunkte Literatur-Kunst-Medien, Konferenzdolmetschen und Dialogdolmetschen (sofern sie nicht schon zur Erfüllung der Module DD03 und DD04 verwendet worden ist) verwendbar.
