Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students strengthen their translational competences acquired in the BA Transcultural Communication, including linguistic competences, and are made aware of the skills they need for the job. Career changers with other previous education are practically introduced to the subject of translation. The students receive a cursory overview of the entire discipline, in particular of the respective competences necessary for the choice of specialisation in the MA Translation (translational strategies, text typologies, language registers, cultural premises, general and thematic knowledge, research skills, IT in translation, localisation, career choice, and career entry, professional representations, platforms, etc.), with the main focus on translation.
After a short theoretical introduction to each topic, written and oral texts are used to develop translation strategies, partly by translation work with the students' working languages (collaborative approach). Specifics of the various translational fields of activity are illustrated with regard to the choice of focus by means of targeted exercises. Reflections on the meta-level (final portfolio).
Further information on content and dates, lecture hall units, Zoom units, etc. can be found on the Moodle platform.
