Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION: ENGLISH (USA) will focus on the development of different media (radio, TV, newspapers and magazines, Internet) in the United States, exploring the ways in which various aspects of American life (religion, social & moral issues, culture) are reflected here. The lecture will also examine the ways the media have changed to adapt to new social and political realities and how social and political developments have been shaped by the media.

Assessment and permitted materials

Mid-term test and final test.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The goal of this lecture will be to enable students to critically reflect on how American culture is reflected by the different mass media but also to provide them an understanding of the central role of the media in shaping American culture and society.

Examination topics

Lecture followed by a 10-15 minute discussion. Articles relevant to the lecture will be made available on the e-learning platform.
