Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Translation of high quality German and Russian texts from the fields of the humanities for a professional audience as well as for a broader audience; systematic analysis of the texts to be edited with regard to technical linguistic, aesthetic, stylistic, formal and other features; research on parallel texts in both languages, terminology work specific to the subject.
Analysis of the communicative context: Who is writing for whom? What is the intention of a text? Who is it addressed to? What communicative conventions can be identified and by what means can these be reproduced in the other language?

Assessment and permitted materials

Discussion of translation strategies and solutions in the group. Presentation of individual papers; glossaries and word lists shared via Moodle; two written tests (using paper dictionaries).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular attendance and active participation are the prerequisites for performance assessment.
At least 60% of the requirements relevant to the assessment (participation, homework, presentation, tests) must be fulfilled.
Max. 100 points
60-70 Sufficient
71-80 Satisfactory
81-90 Good
91-100 Very good

Examination topics

The students should be able to apply the contents and competences from the course for the tests and presentations.
