Aims, contents and method of the course

Students ought to have read "Fachkommunikation und Terminologie" before taking this course.

OBJECTIVES
Students are enabled to apply their knowledge in the areas of professional communication, terminology studies and information and interface design (module 7) to authentic tasks in their working languages. Students recognise

CONTENT
Students will practice active listening and understanding texts and will be expected to summarize oral texts and present their own texts in line with given instructions.

METHODS
Work in class will be mainly intralingual (English) and partly interlingual (English - German). Students will work mostly individually and at times within a team to prepare assignments and present their work to the group for discussion and comparison.

Assessment and permitted materials

mid-term test: 20%
group project: 50%
homework and active classroom participation: 30%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In this course, the students' performance will be continuously assessed. Attendance is therefore mandatory. Up to two absences will be tolerated. It is the students' responsibility to catch up on missed work, instructions or other input in a timely manner. Group work will be graded considering both the final product and individual contributions of the group's members.

90-100: very good or 1
80-89: good or 2
70-79: average or 3
60-69: low pass or 4
below 60 is a fail or 5
