Aims, contents and method of the course

LEARNING OUTCOME: This course aims to teach students the necessary skills required to simultaneously interpret speeches and interviews from Russian into German and vice versa. Particular emphasis will be placed on accuracy of content and language. Students will learn how to assess the quality of interpretation by considering certain criteria, such as coherence, flow etc. They will improve their interpreting strategies (anticipation, condensation, time lag etc.), learn how to work as a team within the booth and improve their ability to interpret longer sequences (30-40 minutes).
CONTENT: Interpreting videos and live speeches
METHODS: Practicing interpreting, peer-to-peer feedback and analysis of interpretations

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation during the course.
You can also put together a portfolio with transcripts and short analyses (based on quality criteria) of your own recorded interpretations.
