Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture deepens the ability of students to write academic papers, which has already been developed in the form of the bachelor thesis and seminar papers. It aims to heighten students sense for the correct formal linguistic register in transcultural scientific contexts as well as skills needed to write a formal master's thesis.

Contents:
- Systematic research and reception of scientific works
- Correct citation
- Language register: formal vs. informal; consideration of the transcultural dimension
- academic terminology and phrasing
- Structure of a paragraph
- structure of a scientific work/thesis
- linguistic presentation of the chosen method, achieved results and resulting
discussion
- description of statistical and qualitative data

Method:
- Research exercises and summarizing/presenting scientific papers.
- Correction exercises and examples
- Writing exercises of individual shorter sequences
- Final seminar paper

Assessment and permitted materials

Submission of all specified writing and research exercises as well as the final seminar paper on a topic coordinated with the course instructor.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Completion of all specified writing and research exercises, submission of final seminar paper of an appropriate quality, and compliance with attendance requirements.
