Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Reading texts in English: understanding the overall meaning as well as the nuances of a text, analyzing it in its specific context with regard to how it shapes messages conveyed, exploring the meaning-creating process inherent in reading a text, questioning the discourse used.
Assessment and permitted materials
Participation in class, mid-term test, presentation, short essay.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Gaining a text expert's view on reading and understanding texts.
Examination topics
Students will be asked to assemble a small text corpus on a topic of their choice in small groups. Following brief introductions into various aspects of textual analysis, they will explore their own text corpus. Presentation of findings will be followed by a group discussion on selected issues.
