Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Exploring texts written in several types of English beyond their apparent textual meaning. Discussing the situatedness of texts. Analyzing discursive tools used towards varying objectives.
Assessment and permitted materials
Participation in class, individual and group assignments, mid-term review, end-of-term review.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will develop a more profound understanding of texts as communicative events.
Examination topics
Class and homework assignments, to be completed in groups or individually, will include exercises to train various types of text comprehension, to explore various aspects of discursive construction in a text, research assignments aimed at achieving a more profound level of comprehension, analyses regarding macro- and microstructure and associated text functions, moderated debates and text production assignments.
