Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In diesem Semester liegt der Schwerpunkt auf 25 Bücher, die Amerika am meisten geprägt haben, darunter bekannte Klassiker wie Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby, On the Road, The Maltese Falcon. Anhand von Auszügen aus diesen Büchern und Sekundärliteratur dazu soll besprochen werden, wie diese Werke nicht nur die Kultur des Landes geprägt haben, sondern auch die (Selbst)Wahrnehmung von Amerika beeinflusst haben.
Assessment and permitted materials
Regular attendance and active participation in class are mandatory. Grade will be based on participation, written assignments and final essay.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Ziel des Proseminars ist ein besseres Verständnis der amerikanischen Literatur und ihrer Rezeption.
Examination topics
Students will be expected to read the weekly course material (a reader will be provided) and to give one oral presentation on a selected book. There will be written assignments and one final essay in class at the end of the semester.

Twenty-five books that shaped America by Thomas C. Foster ( a reader will be provided!)
