Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The concept of Diversity is used in ecological context („biodiversity“), but mainly in Sociology, where it refers to the heterogeneity of individuals and groups. After analysing the question where Diversity is relevant to transcultural communication, we shall discuss the different areas, using many examples for illustration. The aim is to raise awareness for cultural conditioning in oneself and others, bearing in mind, which ethical principles should guide the behaviour of cultural mediators.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written exam on 19/06/2013.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Raising awareness for diversity in all its manifestations, as far as they are relevant for transcultural communication; discussing of ethical principles, using examples from the practice of transcultural communication (incl. translation and interpreting).
Examination topics
Lecture with interactive parts (discussions, questions and answers, tasks, etc.)
