Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Requirements: BA concluded. Very good knowledge of German and Spanish. Course work is based on different genres of texts and specialist texts both in German and in Spanish. The various collected texts serve as a basis for the course. These will be handed out during the semester or made available on the e-learning platform, after registration of the student by the teacher.
Assessment and permitted materials
Immanent course grading: grade based on the semester performance. Regular attendance is prerequisite for assessing the students performance. Continuous active in-class participation and written exams during the semester as well as a written final exam in the last week of the semester.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Introduction to theories of translation as well as achievement of translatory competence by translating medium-difficult to difficult specialist texts of various genres in Spanish and German. By considering various topics in Spanish and Latin American culture, the course offers the possibility to make cultural, idiomatic, and lexical comparisons.
Examination topics
In the context of this course, Spanish serves partly as target language and partly as source language, depending on the students’ knowledge of different languages. Written texts by the students will be presented orally, contrasted with other text productions and subsequently commented upon.
For each translation handed in students will produce an analysis as well as documentation of research, including a glossary, in written form. The glossary has to include at least the following categories: designation in both languages, with sources; definition in both languages, with sources; context sentence in both languages, with sources. (cf. Modulprüfung Fachübersetzen)
