Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar is specifically offered for students with the focus on specialized translation and language industry. This seminar is equivalent to the master colloquium in the Multilingual Technologies curriculum as well as the 2015 version of the curriculum Translation.

Based on the Master's thesis concept, which was developed in the SE Master's thesis conception, students are individually guided and accompanied in the SE Master's thesis process when writing their Master's thesis. The seminar guides participants in specifying and presenting their thesis topic, fosters peer exchange and general as well as guided peer feedback. Furthermore, it fosters critical reflection on individual thesis projects, approaches and writing skills. The seminar, additionally, provides support and guidance for the research design and the related materlias and analyses and accompanies the writing process.

Assessment and permitted materials


The overall assessment consists of four main parts:
1) Presentation of the planned master's thesis project
2) Oral presentation preliminaries/methods
3) Written submission "Theoretical Foundation"
4) Written submission "Method"

Active participation in discussions is expected. Seminar materials will be provided on the learning platform and in class as well as in form of related literature. AI-based applications may be used for specific assignments and after explicit agreement by the lecturer. Such applications may not be used for writing the master's thesis.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The individual assignments contribute with the following weights to the overall grade:
1) Presentation of the planned master's thesis project: 10%
2) Oral presentation preliminaries/methods: 10%
3) Written submission "Theoretical Foundation": 40%
4) Written submission "Method": 40%

The minimum requirement for a positive assessment: 60%

Grading:
• 0-59% 5 (fail),
• 60-70% 4,
• 71-81% 3,
• 82-92% 2,
• 93-100% 1

All submissions will undergo a plagiarism check. In inidividual cases, an oral exam could be scheduled.

Due to mandatory attendance, students may only miss two classes.

Examination topics

Course with continuous assessment with the indicated individual assignments. Materials are provided on Moodle.

Reading list

Literature on scientific basics and standards as well as topic-specific literature will be provided on Moodle.
