The lecture takes this situation as an opportunity to raise some basic questions in translation studies and to discuss them with the help of different perspectives and approaches: What does 'difference' mean? Is there a difference between 'difference', 'diversity', 'plurality' and 'diversity'? How is and has it been understood in translation studies? Are linguistic and cultural differences objectively given causes for translation? Or are these differences produced by translation in the first place? Are there other differences that play a role in translation, such as gender, age, religion, but also the difference between man and machine (keyword: machine translation)?
The aim of this lecture is to provide the participants with analytical instruments that enable them to bring cognitive order into a complex field of phenomena.
