Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Completion of individual research tasks and online activities (15%), completion of oral assignment/group presentation (15%), and individual seminar paper (70%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Attendance is mandatory (two absences are allowed).
Plagiarism is unacceptable.
An advanced level of both oral and written English is required.
Pass grade: 60%
Grading scale: 100-90% = 1 (Sehr gut), 89-80% = 2 (Gut), 79-70% = 3 (Befriedigend), 69-60% = 4 (Genügend), 59-0% = 5 (Nicht genügend)

Reading list
Reading material (e.g. journal articles) will be provided in class and on the Moodle platform. Students will be provided with a reading list but will also conduct their own research.

(1) promote culture-specific knowledge in an interdisciplinary fashion and raise students’ awareness of the complex relations between culture and communication;
(2) enable students to sharpen their critical and argumentative thinking, and to develop academic writing skills with a focus on various research fields in general and the Anglophone research community in particular;

Culture and communication in the English-speaking world embedded in or with a focus on different areas and fields of study (e.g. literature, history, business, media, translation, linguistics, etc.); conducting independent, interdisciplinary research within these areas; academic writing in English and producing well-argued and coherent research papers related to the areas above; developing/improving critical discussion skills and presentation techniquesTeaching/learning methods:
In-class research work (individual, pair, and group work), discussions and student presentations (group assignment), online activities (peer feedback on research drafts), independent research on a given topic outside of class and text production (research/seminar paper)
