Aims, contents and method of the course
Translation of administrative and legal texts from German into English.
Assessment and permitted materials
Two assignments, written exam.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
To provide students with a small taste of the diversity of work undertaken by the European institutions whilst practising German to English translation on the basis of real-life texts.
Examination topics
We will be translating into English genuine texts, from a wide variety of fields, submitted to the European Commission in German, and comparing and contrasting our translations with those of the Commission's professional translators. The course will include a mix of individual work, small group work and class discussion. Be prepared to contribute actively!
