Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Class participation, two assignments, one presentation and a end-of-term test.Students will allowed to use dictionaries and the Internet in exams.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students work will be assessed against the following criteria
- Participation in class (10%) and in online activities
- Final test (30% each)
- Completion of written assignment(s) and presentation (60%).

- demonstrate the knowledge of translation as an act of text production for a specific purpose and target group;
- demonstrate genre knowledge by identifying structural units in texts;
- use their procedural knowledge to analyze source texts in the context of situation and culture;
- identify requirements a target text has to fulfill based on the assignment;
- develop research competences;
- reflect on the text production process and evaluate and optimize the target texts.Content: Understanding of translation as a situational text production process; genre and register analysis of texts; production of different types of texts; production of German texts based on English source texts (E-G) and vice versa (G-E); reflecting on decisions made during the translation process.Method: lecturing; classroom activities, e-learning, assignments, exercises.
