Aims, contents and method of the course

Course content:
Text analysis and production with special attention to various text functions and types, media, target groups, writing process(es), revision, argumentation
Course objectives:
The objectives of this course are as follows:
- to hone students' writing skills for a wide variety of situations, especially with regard to text conventions;
- to develop students' ability to produce texts which are appropriate to a given situation and assignment.
Methods:
Students will achieve the course objectives by:
- analyzing and assessing a variety of texts (individual/group projects);
- writing, adapting/rewriting and optimizing texts for various situations, target groups and media;
- reflecting on and discussing various steps in the text production process.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment will be based on the following:
- Participation in class (10%) and in online activities;
- Two tests (25% each);
- Completion of written assignments (40%).
Students are allowed to use one monolingual dictionary during the tests.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to pass the course, students must attain a passing grade on at least one test.

Examination topics

Both tests will be based on the text types and exercise formats used in class and in the written assignments.
