Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The American Frontier and the Cowboy: Analyzing and Discussing the United States Expansion from 1830 to 1900
Assessment and permitted materials
regular participation in class; presentation and paper; Exam at the end of the semester
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
To understand the concept we have of the cowboy today. To find the origins of the myth established. To learn about American Manifest Destiny and the outcome thereof.
Examination topics
Reading and discussing texts on American History especially expansionism. The subject will be underlined with artwork from the era. The image of the cowboy will become clear with the works depicted. Each student will give a short presentation and hand in a paper on the subject. Verbal communication in the class in required.
