Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will follow major changes in public opinion and the visual in African American trends. Were there African American Artists working at this time? Who were they? What about women? How did America attitudes change? We will concentrate on the visual as well as texts from the period.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment will be made through class participation, group work, presentation and final exam

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will gain an understanding of the civil war and the civil rights movement. They will understand changing American attitudes. Students will learn about artists and artwork in the United States giving a more rounded idea of what America is about. Students will learn new vocabulary and expressions connected with Gender and Race. Students will learn to express the new ideas gleaned during class.

Examination topics

Artwork will be shown and discussed. New ideas will be presented. Students will work in groups and present their ideas.

Reading list

Reading material will be put on Moodle each week. Students will make lists of new expressions and these will be discussed in class the following week.
