Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will follow the course of art in the United States in the 19th Century. We will discuss the political situation and ultimately how this effected the art scene from 1830 onwards. The theme is Manifest Destiny. We will follow Howard Zinn historically.

Assessment and permitted materials

The student will be assessed by 1. attending class 2. participation in class 3. class assignments - quizes 4. oral presentation 5. written presentation

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The goals of this course are to understand how manifest destiny has influenced America and Americans to this day. Why this concept is so important and where it came from.

Examination topics

Learning through communication. There will be group and individual discussions, analysis of artwork, reading with verbal and written communication of what has been read. Interactive participation in class is essential
