Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course will introduce you to post-colonial literatures written in English, with a focus on African writers, and some key texts and concepts of the field. We will look at examples of post-colonial literature as a form of transcultural writing, exploring the authors' transcultural strategies and practices.
Assessment and permitted materials
Presentation, essay, midterm test, homework assigments, participation in discussions.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Upon successful completion of the course you should have a basic understanding of the key concepts of postcolonial literatures, be able to understand and discuss works of literature from a transcultural perspective, and be able to write an academic essay in English.
Examination topics
We will discuss a number of key texts in class. Students will then focus on one book of their own choice, present a paper on it and submit an academic essay at the end of the semester. Presentations will be short so that there will be enough time for discussions.
