Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Translation and interlingual and -cultural rewriting of texts covering various fields and cultures: textual analysis (source-text analysis in comparison to assignment and target text, assignment-specific requirements for the target text, reflecting on text type conventions, etc.), writing texts in German and English according to defined criteria, commentary on the work process (defending decisions made during text production). Translatory assignments will cover both directions, German -> English and English --> German.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation in class, assignments, mid-term exam, end-of-term exam.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Over the course of the semester, students will handle texts according to given assignments
- to understand translation as an act of text production for a specific purpose and target group,
- learn to analyze a source text in a specific environment,
- identify requirements a target text has to fulfill based on the assignment,
- learn to reflect on as well as evaluate and optimize the target texts produced.

Examination topics
Translation assignments to be completed in class or prepared at home; students work in small groups or by themselves.
