Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction to basic aspects of translation; text and assignment analysis for translation (purpose, target group, cultural context, etc.); production of German texts based on English source texts (E-G) and vice versa (G-E); proofreading and editing. Course held in English.

Assessment and permitted materials

Two tests (one mid-term and one end-of-term); homework assignments; class performance (attendance and participation); regular class attendance mandatory.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will acquire basic strategic and analytical competences necessary for successful translation and learn functional assignment-focused approach to text production; improvement of text comprehension and text production skills; preparation for PIK-exams.

Examination topics

Lecture; oral and written exercises to be completed in class and as homework; individual and teamwork.
