Aims, contents and method of the course
General approach: practical course aimed at learning about and practising translation in a specific field of the humanities. This semester focuses on literary texts. The working languages are Spanish and German.Objectives: delving into the similarities and differences in general expression between the two languages; distinguishing between literary and non-literary language; acquiring basic resources for translating literature (conceptual and linguistic).Methodology and corpus: theoretical approach based on philological positions; translation from German into Spanish and vice versa; treatment of texts by Spanish-speaking authors (from Spain and Latin America) and German-speaking authors (especially Austrian); differentiated typology of texts and target audience; continuous exercises (oral and written, individual and group).
Assessment and permitted materials
Compulsory attendance (at least 75% of the teaching hours).
Continuous assessment, i.e. active participation in class, handing in assignments that will complete the work done in class; 2 mid-term exams and a final exam.
55% of the work must be passed for a positive ressult.
