Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Exploring texts written in several types of English beyond their apparent textual meaning. Discussing the situatedness of texts. Analyzing discursive tools used towards varying objectives.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation in class, individual and group assignments, mid-term test, end-of-term paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will develop a more profound understanding of texts as communicative events.

Examination topics

Class assignments, to be completed in groups or individually, will include exercises to train various types of comprehension, research assignments aimed at achieving a more profound level of comprehension, analyses of a variety of texts and short text production assignments. Part of the semester will be dedicated to a group project, in which students will investigative various aspects of discursive construction in a text corpus they have chosen themselves.
