Aims, contents and method of the course

Text analysis and production with special attention to various text functions and types, media, target groups, writing process(es), author's intentions, vocabulary and rhetorical devices.

The objectives of this course are as follows:
- to develop students' writing skills for a wide variety of situations, especially with regard to text conventions and different contexts

Students will achieve the course objectives by:
- analyzing and assessing a variety of texts (individual/group projects)
- writing, adapting/rewriting and optimizing texts for various situations, target groups and media
- reflecting on and discussing various steps in the text production process.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students take two written exams in the course of the semester (one monolingual dictionary allowed). Both exams will be based on the text types used in class and in the written assignments.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Assessment will be based on the following:
- Participation in class (10%)
- Two tests (25% each)
- written assignments (40%).

Minimum passing score: 60%.
