Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will use relevant literature, group work and class discussions to explore and reflect on the psychological processes involved in interpreting, especially in the context of community interpreting, with a focus on psychotherapy.
The course will be held in tandem with Uta Wedam, who works as a supervisor for interpreters (in the context of psychotherapy) and will share her rich experience.
- Objectives: Acquisition of reflexive knowledge about psychodynamic aspects of interpreting in different contexts; dealing with distressing and negative feelings.
- Contents: Development and communication of relevant content (e.g. phenomena of transference and counter-transference, demands and expectations of interpreters, etc.).
- Method: Input by the course leaders, discussion and exchange of experiences in the group, reading of relevant texts, role plays, written descriptions and reflections, etc.

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance and active participation;
homework;
written final reflection.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attending the course and active participation: 60%
Submitted written assignments: 40%

Examination topics

This is a course with continuous assessment of students' performance, therefore there is no final exam.
