Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Translation of English-language short shorts, flash fiction, sudden fiction.
Assessment and permitted materials
Translation with commentary; revision of work of another team; follow-up revision of own translation; midterm and final exam; participation.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Understand the challenges of translating literary texts; develop strategies for analyzing source texts and planning target texts; write creatively in German; improve your critical skills by working in teams and revising your colleagues' translations; get to know the German-language book market for this kind of fiction and learn about the situation of professional translators of literature.
Examination topics
Students (in teams of 2) will translate one or two stories, produce commentaries on their work and revise the work on another team; discussions in class.
