Aims, contents and method of the course

Course objectives: developing reading comprehension strategies and reading-based writing skills. Students acquire text analysis methods that enable them to understand and discuss texts as communicative events. They improve the skills of reading comprehension and text-based writing, with a focus on exploring different types of meaning, organizing texts, and integrating sources.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment will be based on participation in class and classroom activities (15%), midterm test (25%), final test (35%), and writing assignments (25%). Students are allowed to use monolingual dictionaries during the tests.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students have to attain a passing score (60% or more) on at least one of the in-class tests to be able to pass the course.

Examination topics

Two tests*; Both tests will be based on the text types discussed and practiced in class and in the written assignments. *Since this is a condensed course, one of the tests will be substituted by a project
