Aims, contents and method of the course

Focusing on technical standards and related documents as well as pertinent forms

Assessment and permitted materials

Definition of goals and the methods to achieve them (in working groups); development of the capability to efficiently translate technical standards and related documents as well as related forms using the most appropriate tools.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Efficient approaches to translate standards and related sorts of texts, as well as pertinent forms; learning the methods and translation strategies to overcome translation difficulties in connection with technical standards, etc.

Examination topics

Starting off from a typology of documents in the fields of technical standards and related forms it is intended to focus on:
- the identification of translation difficulties and translation methods for standards;
- the formulation of translation strategies (duly taking into account German-German and English as intermediary languages);
- the evaluation of mono- and multilingual dictionaries and other works of reference;
- the formalities peculiar to the the preparation of standards and the procedures involved.
