Aims, contents and method of the course

Focus on patents and related documents as well as pertinent forms

Assessment and permitted materials

Jointly working on goals and methods to achieve these goals; capability of efficiently translating patents and related documents with the help of the most appropriate reference tools; work in small working groups.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Learning the most efficient approach to translating patents and related sorts of text as well as all kinds of pertinent forms; acuiring the methods and translation strategies to cope with translation difficulties when transalting patents

Examination topics

Starting off from a typology of documents concerning patents, utility models, registered trademarks etc. and related documents the focus will be on:
- translation difficulties and translation methods,
- translation strategies (duly considering deDE peculiarities and English as pivot language),
- evaluation of mono- and multilingual works of reference,
- special formalities concerning the application of patents, utility models and registered trade marks.
