Aims, contents and method of the course

Focus: personal documents, forms and various other official documents (language of instruction: German and Japanese)

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation in the seminar

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Efficient approach to the translation of personal documents, forms and various other documents; learning the methods to deal with translation difficulties in translating documents

Examination topics

Starting off with a typology of legal documents, forms and other documents it is intended:
- to explore the difficulties in the translation of texts stemming from different legal systems (Austrian German and Japanese);
- to examine the translation strategies (duly taking into account German-German and English as intermediary languages);
- to evaluate mono- and multilingual works of reference and dictionaries;
- to deal with the specific problems occurring in Japanese documents.
