Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Exploration of short forms of literary genres (prose, poetry, drama), multilingual writing. The course language is (Austrian Standard) German. In some exercises, participants will be invited to bring in their other active languages. A perfect command of German is a prerequisite for creative writing in this language.
Assessment and permitted materials
Writing assignments, active participation during course units and on the e-learning platform, final exam (45 min) in the last unit of the course.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The aim of this course is to encourage and develop the creative potential of the students by experimenting with short forms of various literary genres. Students will create their own texts within a defined set of parameters (as in translation) and will learn more about their individual style of writing in order to apply it in the best possible way.
Examination topics
The methods of teaching and learning are derived from creative writing traditions originating in the United States and the Vienna Poetry School and are adapted for the requirements of future translators. Drawing from a joint, transcultural exploration of the characteristics of poetry, prose and drama, students will write texts during course hours and at home. Feedback will be provided by and to the other students of the group and by the instructor in course units and on the e-learning platform.
